Gas, Food, Lodging (1992) by Allison Anders

Sucker Punch (2011) by Zack Snyder

I thought the movie’s direction and sound-track were flawless. I loved the wardrobe, the setting, the very burlesque feel, the make-up, the execution…etc. What I thought of the film itself though can best be described using Roger Ebert’s words:

I hated this movie. Hated, hated, hated, hated, hated this movie. Hated it. Hated every simpering stupid vacant audience-insulting moment of it. Hated the sensibility that thought anyone would like it. Hated the implied insult to the audience by its belief that anyone would be entertained by it.

An Education (2009) by Lone Scherfig

I’m a sucker for coming-of-age films.

The Panorama of the European Film is an annual film festival in Egypt which serves as one of the first (if not the first) art house (or generally, non-mainstream) films theatres. I will be sure to attend and I advise anyon e in Cairo and/or interested to give it a shot too. (I apologize for any sort of incoherency since I’m currently jetlagged half-way to hell and in a bizzarely horrible mood).

Thirteen (2003) by Catherine Hardwicke

This movie was my favorite during most of my teenage years. I think when I first watched Thirteen I was actually thirteen myself and I watched it over and over through the years. While it might not be my favorite now, I still think it’s a really good film.
